Balkans | A march was organized in Kosovo against abuse of the disabled

A march was organized in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, against abuse of the disabled.

As part of the activity organized by the Artpolis Center, dozens of wheelchair users and their supporters marched from Zahir Bagaziti Square in the capital to the Government House.

In the march, which was held under the slogan “Enough, enough”, the demonstrators carried banners reading “My disabilities do not give you the right to abuse”, “Enough is enough, do not neglect our skills” and “Stop the violence just because I am disabled”.

Prizren resident Princi Rahmani, who participated in the rally, said in a statement that the slogan “Enough is enough” aims to be the voice of rebellion that opposes and condemns misogyny, racism, sexism, harassment and all forms of violence.

Rahmani emphasized that silence is not the answer and that all kinds of violence and injustice must be reported, “Only together we can fight violence and inequality. Only together we can be so close to social equality and gender equality. Enough; abuse cannot be hidden within walls.” He said.

In Kosovo, 2022 has been declared the Year of the Disabled by state institutions. There are approximately 200,000 disabled people in the country, which amounts to 10 percent of the population.

Laws in the country state that 1 out of every 50 employees in organizations will be crippled.

Kosovo Assembly deputies often point out that this law is not applied in practice.
