A freight train loaded with ammonia overturned on the Nis-Dmitrovgrad railway in Serbia on Monday night. A dead body of a Turkish citizen was found in the area.
It was determined that the person whose lifeless body was found was Tarık Pehlivan, a TIR driver who is a citizen of the Republic of Turkey. Specialized Turkish Consul Atilla Kucuktashli said: “According to estimates, our truck driver lost his life by falling from a high place while trying to leave his car and move to a safe area.”
Alleged family neglect
Speaking to Haberturk, Pehlivan’s relatives said that negligence caused the accident and demanded that the Turkish authorities investigate the accident and inform the family. Family relatives claimed that the accident occurred while Pelivan was coming from Germany to Turkey with the truck he was using, and they claimed that there were problems with the train tracks. The family said the body was on its way to Turkey.
51 people were poisoned
In the accident on the Nis-Dmitrovgrad railway, 51 people were poisoned by ammonia released into the air as a result of the overturning of a freight train car loaded with ammonia. In a statement issued by the Serbian Ministry of Interior, residents of the region were warned to leave their homes, while the mayor of Pirot, Vladan Vasic, said in a statement to the local press that education will be suspended for one day in schools in the region, as a state of emergency was declared after the incident.
