The Greek Army has begun preparations to purchase 20 F-35 fighter jets, 20 in total in the first place.

The discussion of the deployment of new fighter jets at the Andravida Air Base east of the country’s southern Peloponnese peninsula was revealed at the March 29 Foreign Affairs and Defense Council meeting led by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. .

According to the Greek press, this step was given the green light at the meeting.

The letter of intent that Athens sent to Washington has not yet been returned, but a decision on a possible sale is expected to be made before the elections scheduled to take place in Greece on May 21, and the first aircraft are expected to be delivered in 2028.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mitsotakis, in a letter to Parapolitika, indicated that they can start a dialogue with Turkey if the ballot box comes first. Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that the only dispute in the Aegean Sea and the eastern Mediterranean was the determination of maritime jurisdiction, “sovereignty issues are beyond the scope of any discussion. These issues are not put on the scale,” he said.
