Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that a new era has begun in relations with the Western Balkan country, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During his first official visit to the country, Aliyev received an official ceremony in the capital, Sarajevo, by the President of the Presidency Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Serbian member Zelica Cvijanovic, the Croatian member of the Council Zeljko Komsic, and the Bosnian member Denis Beservic. .
Speaking at the press conference held after the meeting between the two delegations, Aliyev said that he is very happy to be in Sarajevo and that he is happy to strengthen relations between the two countries.
Aliyev stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina was among the countries that supported it during the Karabakh War, and said: “We are grateful to you for this friendship and brotherhood. Today a new era begins in our relations. We will strengthen relations in the economic field. There will be activities between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Azerbaijan in the strategic field.” He said.
Ilham Aliyev stressed that they want to expand their cooperation in the field of trade and expressed their willingness to invest in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Azerbaijani President Aliyev said that the cooperation that will take place in the field of energy also includes a wide area, and the gas pipeline that his country owns passes through the borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina:
We have invested a lot in infrastructure projects in many countries. It is important for us to connect the Caucasus with the Balkans. I think we will take concrete steps in this direction. We also talked about deepening intercultural dialogue. We can do a good job in this area because there are differences in the ethnic makeup of the two countries. Baku and Sarajevo were sister cities at the time of Yugoslavia and the USSR. I am sure that our friendship will grow even more after this meeting.”
