Kosovo’s Interior Minister Zelal Svechla stated that the barriers in the north no longer made sense, and that they did not want to wait any longer for ISFOR to remove the barriers.
He said in a press conference in Sweden that the reason for setting up these barriers was the arrest of former police officer Diane Pantek, adding that there were speculations about his health and treatment.
KFOR asked for some time to remove the barricades themselves. Now we expect them to fulfill their obligations. But 13 days have passed and police officers are stranded in Yarenci and Brenjak. I believe that KFOR and the international community are determined to do so as soon as possible. We expect those who erected barriers or kufr to do so to ensure stability. However, there is an end to the wait as well. “If KFOR does not remove the barriers, we have the ability to do it ourselves,” he said.
The Minister of the Interior also indicated that Serbian propaganda was worsening the situation in northern Kosovo.
