Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo Psnik Bislemi said in a statement to the media that Kosovo should not declare elections in the north of the country without lifting the punitive measures imposed by the European Union.
Bislemi said he was waiting for the European Union to announce the lifting of sanctions, following the agreement between Kosovo and the European Union in Bratislava and the withdrawal of 25 percent of the police force from 4 municipalities in the north.
Although Kosovo President Fyuza Osmani said earlier that holding elections is permitted under Kosovo’s legislation and could take place through a petition signed by 20 percent of citizens on the ballot that could start the new election process, Pislimi said he was not sure if there was a proper legal basis for revealing it.
“This is an internal problem in Kosovo, where no agreement can be reached on whether an administrative order is sufficient or whether a law is needed.” Bislemi stated that the final resignation of the newly elected Albanian mayors will lead the municipalities to early elections.
