“We cannot express what we saw there. May God help you,” said Bosnia and Herzegovina team captain Lieutenant Colonel Miralem Kanis. He said.
Search and rescue teams in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, who supported the work in the disaster area where the earthquakes occurred which was the epicenter of Kahramanmaraş, were sent to their countries from Istanbul Airport.
After completing their work in Hatay, one of the quake zones, the Bosnian team of 10 people completed ticket and passport transactions at the airport. The team members were applauded by officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the operator of Istanbul Airport, İGA.
Lieutenant Colonel Miralem Canik, BH team leader, said in a statement to the press that they are working in search and rescue operations with IHH teams in Hatay Antakya.
Pointing out that they could not drive anyone out alive while they worked, Kanek said, “We took a few funerals. It’s hard to describe what happened there. We can’t express what we saw there. God help you.” He said.
“We have never seen such a disaster before.”
Dragan Bilic, head of the Serbian Search and Rescue Association, said that they worked in Kahramanmaraş for 7 days with a team of 5 people.
Bilic stated that they worked with AKUT and the Brazilian team:
“We can say that we were born for this kind of search and rescue work, but we have never witnessed such a disaster. I saw that there is very strong international solidarity in the earthquake area and there is intense love for the Turks. At the same time, I saw great sadness in the region. We have been treated by people “The region did very well, and they were full of gratitude. Our medical team took an injured child to the hospital. I will never forget it.”
The teams, hosted at the “IGA Lounge” in the departure hall of Istanbul International Airport, left for their countries on the Turkish Airlines (THY) plane.
