With the approval of parliament, Bulgaria will send 100 “old but never used” Russian-made military armored vehicles to Ukraine.
Citizens for European Development in Bulgaria (GERB), Continuing Change (PP), Democratic Bulgaria (DB) and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (HÖH), mostly Turkish and Muslim opposition members, and the Halk Var (ITN) parties, which make up the ruling coalition, supported the proposal put forward by the Parliament’s Defense Committee.
The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), which supported Russia in the Russo-Ukrainian War, and the Rebirth Party opposed the decision. Representatives of both parties argue that sending weapons to Ukraine has prolonged the war.
Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov also supported the delivery of Russian-made military armored vehicles that had been waiting in hangars in Bulgaria since the 1980s to Ukraine.
Ahead of the approval process in Parliament, Denkov said: “Placing these vehicles on the agenda was brought up during the visit (July 6) of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to Bulgaria. Ask them (Ukrainians) ‘Will it be useful to you?’ We asked. When they say ‘yes’, we prepare the vehicles to be sent to Ukraine.” I used words.
