The Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture announced that it has temporarily suspended the paid clearance process for vehicles entering through 3 joint border gates with Turkey.
The ministry’s written statement stated that the paid disinfection process for vehicles coming from Turkey and against the risk of an animal disease epidemic has been temporarily suspended.
In the statement, it was noted that the situation of infectious animal diseases in Turkey did not cause concern, and therefore this practice was canceled.
Accordingly, the disinfection will not take place at the Kapitan Andrevo border crossings via Kapikuli, Lesovo via Hamzabeli and Malko Tarnovo via Derekoye.
It was announced that the disinfection process would be resumed if the risk of infectious animal diseases arises in Turkey.
The Bulgarian government launched a paid disinfection application 14 years ago for cars coming from Turkey and destined for European Union countries, within the scope of the risk of “infectious animal diseases”.
The practice, which is run by a company that operates independently of state control, has come to the fore with allegations of corruption and has become the subject of criticism in the country.
