According to a written statement from the Bulgarian presidency, President Rumen Radev signed the decree on dismissal of Nikolai Melkov from the post of interim foreign minister.
Longtime diplomat Ivan Kondov will take over in his place. The decree went into effect yesterday (May 3, 2023).
By another decree, Nikolai Melkov was also dismissed from the post of Ambassador of Bulgaria to the French Republic and the Principality of Monaco and from the post of Permanent Representative of Bulgaria to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
By the third decree, Nikolai Melkov was appointed permanent representative of Bulgaria to the North Atlantic Council, the most authoritative decision-making body of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), headquartered in Brussels, the capital of the Kingdom of Belgium.
