In the southern Croatian city of Jasenovac, thousands of Croat, Serb, Jewish and Roma victims killed during World War II are commemorated with a ceremony marking the 78th anniversary of the end of the war.

President Zoran Milanović and many others attended the central ceremony as more than 83,000 people were murdered in the country’s largest concentration camp, Jasenovac, by the pro-Nazi Croatian regime during World War II.

A statement from the presidency said that Milanovic left flowers at the memorial in Jasenovac.

The statement said that a cultural program was organized within the framework of the commemoration ceremony.

Croatia’s largest concentration camp at Jasenovac was established in 1941 by the Nazi-allied regime and closed in 1945. More than 83,000 Croats, Serbs, Jews and Roma were killed in the camp during World War II.
