In Republika Srpska, one of two entities within Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Council of the two entities is debating a controversial law that would impose severe penalties for defamation and damage to honor and reputation.
Opponents, leader of the Bosnian Serbs Milorad Dodik He says that the entity-backed law will enter a dark age and it will not be possible to criticize politicians in any way.
DPP Vice Chair Jelena Trevik said the proposed changes in the Penal Code are aimed at eliminating critical awareness in society. Trevik argued that the arrangement was “a blow to the corrupt and anti-people regime against opposition journalists, media and analysts”.
Vukota Govidarica of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) shared the view that the fines, which can reach €60,000, are too heavy.
Serbian leader Dodik said that all parties in the ruling coalition support this arrangement, and he said that freedom prevails in the entity and there will be no retreat from the law.
