Ozgur Ferhat, the parliamentary candidate from the Rhodope province of Greece’s main opposition Radical Left Alliance (SYRIZA), said his party will make efforts to improve the educational level of the Turkish West Thracian minority.
Ferhat, a deputy candidate for Syriza from the Rhodope region in the May 21 elections in Greece, gave assessments to an AA reporter.
Pointing out that one of the biggest problems faced by the Turks of Western Thrace is in the field of education, Ferhat said, “We will make efforts to improve the educational level of the Western Thrace Turkish minority.” He said.
Emphasizing that the quality of education in minority schools must be appropriate to today’s conditions, Farhat continued:
When SYRIZA was in power, we put bilingual kindergartens into practice with the decisions made by the relevant ministries. As a result, our children are accustomed to the education system in a more comfortable environment in their own language, but unfortunately the New Democracy government canceled this political decision that we made. Our children have also been denied this right.”
Pointing out that the New Democracy government issued a new mufti law without establishing a dialogue with the minority as is the case in many other areas, Farhat pointed out that this law was not accepted by the minority, and many articles of this law were not accepted by SYRIZA.
Emphasizing that the government should make decisions by communicating with the minority on important issues such as the offices of the Mufti, Ferhat stated that Greece violated freedom of association in the 2007 and 2008 decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) regarding minority associations that were closed because the word “Turkish” It was in their names…
Farhat used the following phrases:
As long as the wrong policies continued, no solution was reached to this problem and the legal process began. The European Court of Human Rights has found that the minority is justified in this regard. We support this process and restart our associations. We want associations that are not a threat to Greece now to operate legally.”
We will fight for people to live in peace and happiness.
Many people had to migrate as a result of the wrong policies implemented, Ferhat said, “As politicians in this region, we need to take a clear decision. Because our society must bear the consequences of politics. As a result, we, as SYRIZA, will fight for the development of the country economic prosperity and people living in peace and happiness.” He said.
Noting that they have prepared an economic program based on people’s needs, Farhat said they will attach importance to opening new workplaces and expanding existing business fields.
Emphasizing that they want to revitalize the area by attracting new investments in the industrial area, Farhat said they will produce projects to solve existing problems in the field of agriculture and livestock.
“Minorities are most affected by this economic crisis”
Noting that money from the European Union (EU) has not “reached” the region, Farhat said, “Our country, Greece, has been crushed under the economic crisis for years. Because we are the poorest region, minority people have been affected more by this economic crisis. In order to For the society to survive, the minority and the majority must live together in peace and the economy must be strong.Use phrases.
