Kosovars living abroad continue to send large sums of money to the country every year. The amount of money sent is breaking records year after year.
Total foreign remittances to Kosovo increased to 5.5% in 2022.
According to data from the Central Bank of Kosovo, expatriates sent 3 billion euros to the country in 2022.
Most of the money was sent from Kosovar expatriates in Switzerland. Central Bank Governor Fahmy Mehmety said that 600 million francs were sent from Switzerland alone.
My mission said that 570.7 million were sent from January to September, of which 267.8 million were for travel expenses, 171.4 million for remittances and 132.5 million for foreign direct investments.
My mission added that economic growth reached 4 percent in 2022.
