According to unofficial results, the former Chief of the General Staff Peter Pavel won the presidential elections, which were held in the second round in the Czech Republic, with 57 percent.
In the elections held in the Czech Republic, which has a population of about 11 million, former prime minister and head of the main opposition party, the Eternal People’s Movement (ANO), Andrej Babis, and former chief of staff Petr Pavel competed.
In the country, where there are approximately 8 million 250 thousand voters, according to unofficial results, the former Chief of the General Staff Pavel received 57 percent of the vote, and the head of ANO Babis – 43 percent.
Admitting defeat in an election with a turnout of 70 percent, Babis congratulated his opponent.
In a country where 90 percent of the votes are counted, it is stated that votes that have not yet been counted will not change the outcome.
Meanwhile, congratulations to Pavel from abroad began.

Austrian President Alexander van der Bellen congratulated Pavel in a Twitter post and wished him success in his new position. Van der Bellen has indicated that he is ready to cooperate closely with his counterpart.
Slovak President Zuzana Caputova congratulated Pavel and looked forward to cooperation and meetings with the new president.
