The “Conference on Turks in the Balkans and Turkishness” was opened at the University of Pristina, one of Kosovo’s state universities.

Organized by the Department of Turkish Language and Literature of the University of Pristina with the support of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the conference was attended by the Chairman of the Turkish Democratic Kosovo Party (KDTP) and Minister of Regional Development of Kosovo Vikrim. Speaking at the opening of the conference, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Philology of the University of Pristina Isa Memci, Chairman of the Board of Directors of KDTP and Minister of Regional Development of Kosovo Vikrim Damca, Vice President of TIKA Dr. Mahmut Cevik, Ambassador of Turkey to Pristina Tunc Angeli and Assistant Head of Turkish Language and Literature. doctor. Ergen Gable pointed to the importance of the conference in terms of the presence of the Turkish identity in the Balkans and the survival of the Turkish language.

Speaking to Kosovaport, Vice President of TIKA Dr. Reminding that the Turkish nation living in this geography and the existence of the Turkish language will be discussed at the conference, Mahmut Cevik pointed out that the scientists and archaeologists who will attend the conference from the Balkans and other countries will make presentations about the work done. Far from developing the Turkish language. Stressing that the presence of Turkish identity in this region is directly proportional to the survival of the Turkish language, Cevik said that cultural elements passed down from generation to generation, and existing cultural values ​​show how deep Turkey’s close ties with the Balkans are.

Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Isa Memci, said that Turkish education has a great tradition in Kosovo, and said that Albanians not only learn the Turkish language, but also learn about the Albanian past of 5 centuries by learning the Turkish language.

Speaking to Kosovaport, Turkey’s ambassador to Pristina Tunc Angeli pointed out that there have been Turks in these lands for six centuries and that the Turkish presence and the continuity of the Turkish language are very important. Referring to the role played by TIKA in strengthening the bonds of brotherhood between Turkey and Kosovo, Ambassador Angeli thanked TIKA and pointed out that TIKA’s hand was definitely touched not only in this conference but also in every corner of Kosovo it went to.

KDTP Chairman and Minister of Regional Development of Kosovo, Vikrim Damka, also told Kosovaport that at an important conference for Turks, a wide range of scholars, tobacconists and politicians will speak and discuss Turks in the Balkans and Turkish. Indicating that forward-looking plans and programs will be discussed at the conference, Damka said: “The Republic of Turkey believes that the steps it has taken so far with regard to Turks and Turks in the Balkans will continue to take a more planned and programmed way in the coming period.

At the opening of the conference, a painting of the late Surya Yusuf, the famous Turkmen scholar in Kosovo, was presented for his contributions to the survival and preservation of Turkicism in this land. The conference, which was held on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Department of Trocology at the University of Pristina, will last for 3 days.

The conference focused on topics such as Turkish geography in the Balkans, Turkish associations, Turkish architectural works, Turkish institutions, Turkish education, Turkish literature, Turkish language and Turkish folklore, as well as Kosovo, Turkey, Romania, Hungary, Ukraine, Bulgaria, North Macedonia: It is expected that Turkic scholars from Albania and other countries present a large number of papers.
