Kaili has the right to appeal the decision within 24 hours.
Eva Kayley’s lawyer, Michalis Dimitrakopoulos, defended his client’s innocence in a statement to the press after the hearing.
Allegation of torture
Dimitracopoulos said: “It’s like the Middle Ages when Kylie was living in a cell at the Federal Police station in Brussels. I couldn’t even sleep. It was forbidden, it was cold, they took his coat. I was left in a cold room and no second blanket allowed. Washing is not allowed.” This is all torture.” He said.
Kylie first appeared before a judge on December 22, 2022. His attorneys had requested that Kylie be held pending trial by wearing electronic handcuffs.
Investigating corruption in Belgium
As part of the investigation into corruption, bribery and money laundering conducted by the Belgian authorities, inspections were carried out at many points in December last year, 1.5 million euros in cash were seized and 4 people were detained.
Those arrested are Greek MP Kayli, whose deputy in the European Parliament has been terminated, former Italian MP Pier Antonio Panzieri, Kayli’s partner and Francesco Giorgi, who works as an aide in the European Parliament, and Nicolo Vega Talamanca, director of an NGO. An organization working on issues of the rule of law.
In Giorgi’s statement, two MEPs Andrea Cozzolino and Mark Tarabella allegedly said he had received money from Panziri. Earlier this week, the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, started the process of boosting the immunity of Cozzolino and Tarabella.
It was alleged that these people took bribes from a Gulf state to influence economic and political decisions in the European Parliament. Qatar, which was reported in the news on the matter, denied these allegations.
Later in the news, it was alleged that Morocco also bribed these people, and Moroccan intelligence and Morocco’s ambassador to Warsaw, Abd al-Rahim Atmoun, allegedly met the suspects.
