According to the data of the Bulgarian National Statistical Institute for the period 2022/2023, almost a quarter of foreign students studying in Bulgaria are from Greece.
Students from England are in second place and students from Germany are in third place.
Despite the increase in the number of foreign university students in Bulgaria in the past few years, no change was recorded in the last academic year. While the number of foreign students in the 2021/2022 academic year was 17,616, the number for the 2022/2023 period was announced to be 17,593.
62.4 percent of foreign students study medicine. The proportion of undergraduates coming from Greece is the highest – 22 percent, or 3,870 students. Then the British with 14, 4, or 2,533 percent, the Germans with 9.8 percent, or 1,724, the Ukrainians with 9.1 or 1,600 percent, and university students from North Macedonia with 5.5 percent, or 967, studying in Bulgaria.
