Hamza Yusuf, the new head of the Scottish National Party (SNP), has become Scotland’s first Muslim prime minister after voting in Holyrood, the independent Scottish parliament.
After the victory of Hamza Yusuf in the leadership race, which began after the resignation of the Scottish regional prime minister and head of the Scottish National Party, Nicola Sturgeon, from his position as prime minister and party leader, a vote took place in the Scottish parliament yesterday.
Hamza Yusuf, a Muslim of Pakistani origin, won the majority of Parliament with 71 votes.
Thus Hamza Yusuf became the new Scottish Provincial Premier.
Hamza Yusuf’s mother, whose father was of Pakistani origin and immigrated to Scotland in the 1960s, was born in Kenya into a South Asian family.

Hamza Yusuf, a Muslim of Pakistani origin, won the leadership race that began after Nicola Sturgeon’s resignation from the premiership and the party yesterday.
Yusuf, who won the race with 26,032 votes after voting that began on March 13 and lasted for 14 days by SNP members, became the party’s new leader.
Hamza Yusuf, 37, of Pakistani origin, who was born in Glasgow, Scotland, won 52 percent of the vote of party members, ahead of rivals Kate Forbes and Ash Reagan.
While his opponents were against same-sex marriage and the right to abortion during the campaign, Hamza Yusuf announced that he would stand up for LGBT rights.
In his statement after the results were announced, Hamza Yusuf also stated that he was “determined” on an independent Scotland as a team with his party.
Emphasizing that the people of Scotland need independence more than ever, Joseph said, “We will be the generation that will provide it.” He said.
