Balkans | Illegal immigrants who were pushed into Turkish territorial waters by Greek elements explained their experiences

The illegal immigrants who were rescued by the Turkish Coast Guard off the Kusadasi district of Aydın spoke of the inhumane treatment of the Greek elements who pushed them into Turkish territorial waters.

The Greek Coast Guard stopped a group of illegal immigrants, who sailed on a rubber boat on December 20, in front of the island of Samos and pushed to a point close to Turkish territorial waters.

Meanwhile, as a result of the boat flooding, two irregular immigrants lost their lives, and the Turkish Coast Guard teams rescued 43 irregular immigrants on the boat near Dilek Pass in Kusadasi district.

We were shouting “help us, but they didn’t listen to us”

One of the rescued illegal immigrants said they set sail on the night of December 20 and traveled for about 4.5 hours.

The irregular migrant said that the Greek coast guard teams approached them, “They tied the rope to a rope and pulled it quickly left and right. We were shouting to them ‘Help us’, but they didn’t listen to us. The sea was also very choppy. The water filled the boat and some people drowned.” He said.

“We could all have died.”

Another irregular migrant said that they went to sea with the group and reached the beach at 02:00, adding:

“The Greek Coast Guard crews arrived immediately. They removed the engine of our boat and threw it overboard. They tied us with a rope. There were high and stormy waves. They always made waves with their boats. Then another big Greek Coast Guard ship arrived. We thought they would behave better, But they behaved even worse. They nearly landed us in that big ship.We could hardly hold on to the boat, the ladies were in danger of falling into the sea. They made the pregnant ladies especially so bad. They were so tired they fell asleep right away. There were two children, one of whom was 3 months, the other at 1.5 years old, and two women. We could all die. A friend of mine did not hear from his wife, who is five months pregnant, very upset.”
