The inaugural program took place on the first day of the EU’s Eighth Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Sea Forum (EUSAIR) in Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The program hosted by Bosnia and Herzegovina, which assumed the presidency of EUSAIR, was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Konakovich, the Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grelic Radman and many officials.

Oliver Varhelyi, member of the EU Commission responsible for enlargement, who attended the opening via video conference, stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has been granted candidate country status, should continue to implement EU reforms and stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina is part of the European Union.

Noting that EUSAIR has made great contributions to countries in the region, Varhelyi said that it also provides opportunities in the field of cooperation.

Konakovich stressed regional cooperation, saying, “If we work together, we can eliminate all negative factors. I hope that delegations will exchange thoughts and ideas within the scope of the forum.” He said.

Edin Dilberović, Director of the European Integration Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, stressed the need for joint action to solve problems.

Within the scope of the forum, which will last until May 25 in Sarajevo, countries in the region are expected to hold bilateral meetings in many fields such as environment, tourism, energy and food, while EUSAIR countries Italy, Slovenia and Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro, North Macedonia and Albania, small and medium enterprises and research centers will exchange and Universities of Greece experiences.

Bosnia and Herzegovina will also organize the Adriatic Sea Initiative Council (JJI), while the host country will hand over the presidency of EUSAIR to Croatia.

The European Commission, the EU’s executive body, created EUSAIR in 2014 as a way to bring candidate countries and potential candidate countries closer to the EU.
