Sociologist Masoud Kamali in Sweden denounced the burning of the Holy Qur’an in the country and the authorities’ permitting of such acts under the pretext of freedom of expression.
Al-Kamali said that the burning of the Qur’an in front of the Turkish embassy in Stockholm carries a “political and racist message” for all Muslims.
Noting that the protest was a “political game,” Kamali noted that freedom of expression today allows racist groups, immigrants, and Muslims to attack, “say what they want and do what they want.”
Kamali expressed the view that not allowing a racist politician like Rasmus Paludan or anyone else to burn the Quran would not harm freedom of expression.
Rasmus Paludan, leader of the Danish far-right Tajdeh Party, burned the Quran in front of the Turkish embassy in Stockholm. No one was allowed near Paludan during the event, which was held under the protection of packed police.
