North Macedonian Prime Minister Dimitar Kovačevski made a statement regarding a cystic fibrosis patient who died due to lack of medicine.
Prime Minister Dimitar Kovaczewski said that he had met with the Minister of Health, Kim Sally, and said that this was an unacceptable situation and that he had decided to start providing medicines to seriously ill patients as soon as possible.
Noting that he had meetings with the relevant institutions, Kovaczewski said, “I spoke to Minister Sally and told him this was unacceptable. I told him to think about whether he could continue with his duty and he told me, I said I’ll make up my mind then,” he said.
He also held a meeting with the Director of the Health Fund, Kovaczewski said, “I do not intend to wait in bureaucratic mazes, so concrete steps must be taken this morning. Immediate allocation of financial resources from the Health Fund for critically ill patients with cystic fibrosis. You cannot expect a bid when a drug produced by Before one factory. This is an emergency procedure as there is no waiting period and I don’t want another patient to die because of this bureaucracy.” He said.
