According to documents leaked online from the Pentagon, Bulgaria appears to have offered to supply MiG-29s to Ukraine, CNN reported.
A report among these documents stated that on February 23, Bulgaria stated that it was ready to donate a fleet of MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine.
CNN calls this a “challenge” in the report, because the country will not have fighter jets until the F-16s ordered for the US are in production, while the F-16s will be ready “at least a year later.”
In fact, only 8 of the total 18 MiG-29s are in use in Bulgaria.
“If no engines are found for the old MiG-29, then its capacity can be extended until the end of 2023 at the latest,” said Defense Minister Dmitry Stoyanov in the Provisional Government.
According to BTA news, there is no official response from the ministry yet to this leaked report.
