Six political parties with groups in the Turkish Grand National Assembly issued a joint statement on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide:
“As Parliament, we deeply feel the genocide suffered by our Bosniak brothers in Srebrenica 28 years ago, and we share with our deepest feelings the indescribable pain of our martyrs who were murdered with unprecedented brutality in Europe since World War II. On the 28th anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide Remembrance , one of the darkest regions in human history, we extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved relatives of our martyrs and to all our Bosniak brothers.
In July 1995, the biggest massacre of the Bosnian war took place in the city of Srebrenica which was declared a “safe area” by UN Security Council Resolution 819/1993. This massacre was registered as genocide by a decision of the International Court of Justice dated February 26, 2007. In addition, the ICTY stated in its decisions that what happened in Srebrenica was genocide.
On the occasion of its founding anniversary, it once again condemns the genocide in Srebrenica, telling the late Aliya Izetbegović, “Whatever you do, do not forget the genocide. Proceeding from the slogan “Because the forgotten genocide is repeated”, we would like to assure that we will never forget the genocide in Srebrenica, And that we will not let similar incidents happen again, so that such suffering will not happen again.Like all political parties that have a group in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, we will continue to observe the genocide in Srebrenica forever and firmly support the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the basis of the said views above.
With this published statement, the Turkish Grand National Assembly declared that Turkey will always stand by Bosnia and Herzegovina.
