The Dictionary of Names of Turkish Literature, implemented by Ahmet Yesifi University with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, was presented at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS).

Giving information about the dictionary before the meeting, prof. doctor. Mehtin Şimşek said that they are sister universities with IUS and that they are in Sarajevo for promotion.

Şimşek stated that 1,500 academics worked on 65,000 items in the dictionary project and said, “Our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told us, ‘I want them printed digitally, so that they can be found in all libraries’.” We also printed it, and we are here for the second meeting in Sarajevo, and the first meeting we had was in Zagreb, “he said.

Şimşek stated that they wanted to promote Ahmet Yesifi University in Bosnia and Herzegovina and continued as follows:

Akhmed Yesifi University is a large university that was founded in 1992, as soon as Kazakhstan gained its independence, and today it hosts 16 thousand students. We have 90 thousand students who graduated from 12 faculties of the university, and are currently active in many parts of the world, introducing our country, Turkey and Kazakhstan to the world. Very important people have been trained, for example, the President of the Constitutional Court of Kazakhstan is a graduate of our university, the Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan is a graduate of our university. I am honored to be a member of a university that has served the Turkish world both diplomatically and bureaucratically.”

Expressing that the dictionary they created has been viewed more than 27 million times in the digital environment, Şimşek emphasized that this is important in terms of introducing the Turkish language to the world.

Şimşek also mentioned that they will host three IUS students for a month in Kazakhstan during the summer months.

Dictionary of names of Turkish literature

The Dictionary of Names of Turkish Literature includes the literary accumulation that began with the Seljuk era in Anatolia and continued with the Ottoman Empire and reached today. The dictionary database, which includes poets and writers of Turkish literature from the 13th to the 21st centuries, is complete as a result of many years of work. Since the dictionary’s website opened online, it has been among the first sources approached by academic researchers in dozens of countries.

In the Dictionary of Names of Turkish Literature, Divan, Munshid, Tradition of Lodge and Modern Turkish Literature after Tanzimat are discussed. Also included in the dictionary are names belonging to the ancient Uyghur, Karakhanid, Khorezm-Kipchak, Chagatai and Azerbaijani fields. The dictionary was not limited to Turkey only, but also included biographies of well-known names in Turkey with their works, such as Cengiz Aitmatov, who wrote Turkish in the Geography of the Balkans, Cyprus, and who were described as “expatriates” in various European countries.

Thanks to the website, the dictionary can be updated with user feedback.
