The European Commission condemned the attack on the representative office in Sofia.
Speaking to Bulgarian national radio BNR, European Commission spokeswoman Miriam Ferrer said, “Peaceful protests are a fundamental right in any democratic society, but violence and vandalism are unacceptable.” Ferrer announced that the committee would notify the authorities to investigate the incident.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also publicly condemned the attack and said that such actions are against and inconsistent with modern Bulgaria and democratic values.
On Sunday, the European Commission’s representation building in Sofia was smeared with red paint during a protest organized by “Visrajdan” and attended by party deputies. The demonstrators took action against Brussels’ interference in the country’s internal affairs.
