Bulgarian President Rumen Radev visited the Bulgarian Satellite Control Center Sat-1 to learn about its capabilities in the field of communications and discussed with the company’s management the possibilities of Bulgaria to play a leading role in satellite communications in the region and in the European Union’s space initiatives.
Also present at the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister for Public Order and Security and Interior Minister Ivan Demirjev, Defense Minister Dimitr Stoyanov, Innovation and Growth Minister Alexander Polev, and Electronic Government Minister Georgy Todorov.
Bulgaria is one of the few European countries that has its own geostationary communications satellite and is the only country in Central and Eastern Europe. Bulgaria Sat-1 mainly covers the Balkan Peninsula, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea region, but also covers parts of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. According to the common point of view that was put forward during the meeting, all of this provides great opportunities for our country, but these opportunities have not been exploited so far.
“There is a need for a joint state approach to unite efforts and make full use of the capabilities of the Bulgarian geostationary satellite,” the president said.
It has wide applications in satellite systems and communications, defense and security, monitoring and monitoring of various operations, management of critical infrastructure, reliability of communications for the needs of governments and institutions, and many other areas.
Radev, within the scope of the Presidency Foundation project, was included in the National Plan for Recovery and Sustainability National Monitoring and Coordination, and stated that a project to build the management center was included. The meeting also discussed the possibility of realizing this and other strategic projects for our country in partnership with the Bulgarian geostationary satellite.
