During his meeting with Turkish Energy Minister Fatih Dönmez, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said: “I am pleased to welcome you to the presidential residence on the first working day of the new year. Only three weeks after my visit to Istanbul, I would like to express my satisfaction that the two ministries have implemented our political will.” In a concrete agreement. This agreement is a historical document for our countries, because it is the first time that a foreign company is granted access to the liquefied gas stations in Turkey and the gas transportation system in the country. The President noted that in a press conference held on December 9, Bulgaria and Turkey have a joint responsibility to ensure the security and diversification of energy resources not only for the two countries, but also for their European allies.
Radev indicated that the agreement signed between Bulgaraz and BOTAŞ today is a step towards deepening cooperation between the two countries, adding that Bulgaria and Turkey have development ambitions in the energy sector.
Dönmez thanked the President for receiving them despite his busy schedule today and said: “First of all, I would like to convey the greetings of our President and his wishes for the New Year. We hope that 2023 will be a year in which cooperation between the two countries deepens. We must note that we started the New Year very well and the agreement signed Today is proof of that.
“I hope that the relations between the two countries in the field of energy will accelerate as soon as possible,” said the Turkish Energy Minister, referring to the fact that they held meetings with Bulgarian Energy Minister Rosen Hristov and Prime Minister Gleb Donev, and stressed that the cooperation between Bulgaria and Turkey will be a good model for countries in the region.
Dönmez said, “Due to its geographical location and infrastructure, Turkey is ready to help obtain resources from the Caspian Sea, the Middle East, and the eastern Mediterranean regions. In order for these resources to be larger and more efficient, new projects are needed here as well.” He said, “We are We are ready to cooperate with Bulgaria.”
Adding that another opportunity for cooperation is related to renewable energy sources, the minister said, “Our desire is to encourage the private sector to invest in this field.”
Radev drew attention to another important project initiated by Bulgaria, and indicated that it is a project that will enable the transfer of natural gas from Azerbaijan to Europe to start immediately with a small fund.
The President said, “On the initiative of Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Austria participated in this project. Turkey has an important role in realizing this very important project for the European Union,” noting that this initiative is an important opportunity to expand bilateral cooperation.
