The statement issued by the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior stated that next week, a joint special operation will be launched in conjunction with the Turkish authorities against smugglers of illegal immigrants and refugees.
Bulgarian Interior Minister Ivan Demirsiev, in his speech to the Bulgarian parliament, announced that Turkey and Bulgaria will organize an operation against illegal immigrants and refugee smugglers. Demirsiev said that criminal gangs will be eliminated within the scope of the operation, and said, “We aim to eliminate criminal gangs that deal with smuggling of illegal immigrants by organizing a special operation in our territory and in parallel with Turkey.”
Police clashes carrying illegal immigrants
After the recent refugee crisis, the Bulgarian police mobilized. A Bulgarian policeman was arrested while he was riding a minibus carrying about 31 illegal immigrants from Turkey to Sofia. “I have a lot of credits, and my salary is low, so I smuggle refugees,” said the police, dressed in police uniform. It turned out that the police had been smuggling migrants before. The Interior Ministry dismissed the 23-year-old police officer and opened an investigation.
On the other hand, in the city of Burgas, on August 25, two policemen were killed as a result of a police car chasing a bus full of refugees. The police considered two Turkish brothers, who were discovered at the Turkish-Bulgarian border last November 8, to be refugee smugglers. The policemen died as a result of the shooting by the two brothers. Yesterday, the statement issued by the Bulgarian police stated that the two brothers were shepherds, and they had come to the area to steal cattle grazing at the border, and were not refugee traders.
