The Turkish Embassy in Belgrade reported that the support and solidarity shown by Serbia to Turkey in the earthquake that occurred in Kahramanmaraş on February 6 strengthened bilateral relations.
In a statement issued by the embassy, the Serbs expressed their gratitude for the mobilization, assistance and solidarity they showed after the earthquakes in Turkey.
Noting that President Aleksandar Vucic was among the first heads of state to send a message of condolence, he mentioned that a team of 51 people from Serbia and a search and rescue dog took part in the search and rescue efforts in Turkey.
The statement stated that more than 200 tons of in-kind aid collected in Serbia were sent to the earthquake zone in cooperation with Turkish Airlines (THY), and it was also indicated that the Serbian government also facilitated the passage of trucks. Delivering humanitarian aid to Turkey.
Emphasizing that the Serbian government also provided financial assistance in the amount of 1 million euros, it was shared that the aid collected within the scope of aid campaigns initiated by many institutions across the country has approached 300 thousand euros.
The statement said that 15 trucks of relief materials had been delivered to the earthquake zone from the Sanjak region where the Bosnian population is crowded, and that nearly 300,000 euros in aid had been collected.
Noting that the Serbian government and people are mobilizing for the earthquake victims, it was noted that Serbia’s support and solidarity also shows its determination to strengthen bilateral relations which continue at a very high level in difficult times.
