Balkans |  The “100th Anniversary Cup of Traditional Turkish Archery” competition was held in Kosovo

Pristina Yunus Emre Instituso (YEE) organized the “100th Anniversary Cup of Traditional Turkish Archery” competition in Kosovo, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey.

YEE Vice President Abdullah Kutalmış Yalçın, YEE Coordinator in Kosovo Ramazan Yılmaz, Istog Mayor Ali Nimanaj and sports fans attended the event which took place in the village of Shuşitsa, the home of the father of the national poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy, in western Kosovo.

YEE Vice President Yalcin said in his speech here that the competition held in memory of Mehmet Akif Ersoy, which is an important and valuable milestone in the history of the Republic, has a special meaning.

Pointing out that such competitions will enable the younger generations to get acquainted with traditional Turkish archery and acquire a different skill, Yalcin stressed that he believes that the common historical and cultural ties between Kosovo and Turkey will become stronger and will contribute to the rapprochement of peoples.

Olympians from the municipalities of Pristina, Prizren, Ipek, Mamusa and Mitrovica in Kosovo competed in the 08-13, 14-18 and 18+ age groups, successful athletes were awarded certificates and cups.

Folk dance performances by students of Shushitsa Mehmet Akif Primary School and Albanian interpretation of the national anthem were highly appreciated at the ceremony.

In the context of the continuation of the event, Dr. doctor. Erkan Göksu delivered a lecture entitled “Traditional Turkish Archery and Cultural Heritage”. In addition, a hands-on demonstration of the art of marbling was offered throughout the day.
