Ceremonies were held in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the occasion of the 102nd anniversary of the acceptance of the national anthem on March 12, Martyrs’ Day on March 18 and the 108th anniversary of the Çanakkale Naval Victory.

The “Acceptance of the National Anthem and Ceremony of the Anniversary of Çanakkale’s Victory on March 18,” which was held at the International University of Sarajevo, began with singing the national anthem, reciting the Holy Qur’an, and praying for the martyrs.

The program was attended by Sadik Babur Ceren, Turkey’s ambassador to Sarajevo, and representatives of Turkish institutions in the country.

The opening address was given by the President of IUS, Prof. Dr. doctor. Noting that the Turkish nation had to write the national anthem 100 years ago, Ahmet Yildirim recalled the words of the national poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy, “May God never let this nation write the national anthem again.”

Stating that the Battle of Çanakkale was a war where “all the world powers used all their might to erase the Turks from history”, Yıldırım thanked the speakers and guests for their participation.

Speaking at the session titled “The Historical Significance of Çanakkale Victory”, IUS faculty member Dr. Jahja Muhacilović stressed that Çanakkale should be evaluated in terms of its historical, geopolitical and current significance.

Speaking at the session, another IUS faculty member, Dr. Emphasizing that Çanakkale was never a thing of the past, but rather a historical event and a lesson, Mustafa Krupalija said that in the past, 3 wars occurred for the Turkish nation in a short time such as 10 years and a new international order was formed in the world in these 10 years.

In the programme, Bosnian students also sang the national anthem and poems of the Çanakkale Martyrs.
