Balkans | The conclusion of the EU-Western Balkans summit in Albania

The EU-Western Balkans summit held in Tirana, the capital of Albania, has concluded.

After the summit held at the Congress Palace in Tirana, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, EU Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen held a joint press conference.

Prime Minister Rama, speaking here, said he considered the summit to be “an appreciation of the role played by Albania as a resolute and resilient agent of peace, stability and cooperation in the region.”

Pointing out that the summit has a great historical dimension, Rama said, “It is the first time that the European Union has gone outside the borders of the European Union and held a summit. This is happening in the Western Balkans and especially in Albania. First of all, I see this as an extraordinary sign of awareness that The European Union needs the Western Balkans just as the Western Balkans needs the European Union.” Use the phrase.

Referring to the energy sector, Rama said that they have received budget support of €85 million from the European Union in this regard and said:

This region will participate in this journey to build more energy sources and to distance itself more and more from Russian influence. I want to believe that the time has come to convey the message that the European Union is here for us to all the people in the region, especially the Albanian people.”

The summit, hosted by Albania, discussed topics such as “the repercussions of Russian aggression against Ukraine, strengthening security against foreign interference, combating problems arising from immigration, and combating terrorism and organized crime.”
