The EU Council of Ministers approved the visa waiver decision for Kosovo.
The Kosovo visa waiver decision was unanimously approved by the member states of the EU Council of Ministers.
The visa waiver for Kosovo will be effective from the date ETIAS comes into force or from 1 January 2024. The new rules must be approved by the European Parliament before they are signed and published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
Maria Malmer Steinergaard, Sweden’s Immigration Minister, who holds the EU’s rotating presidency, praised Kosovo’s progress.
“Kosovo has made great efforts to improve security, manage migration and align its visa policy with that of the European Union. We hope that our cooperation in these areas will continue to be fruitful.”
Kosovo’s visa waiver will be voted on again by the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Rights, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE).
Voting is expected to take place on March 22, 2023.
