The European Union decided to extend the economic sanctions imposed on Russia for another 6 months due to the war.
The statement issued by the European Council stated that it was decided to extend the sanctions targeting certain sectors of the Russian economy until July 31, 2023.
It was recalled in the statement that economic sanctions against Russia were imposed for the first time on the grounds that it destabilized Ukraine in 2014, and it was noted that the sanctions were greatly expanded with the Russian-Ukrainian war that began in February of last year.
The statement stressed that sanctions against Russia continue on a wide scale, including trade, finance, industry, technology, transportation, dual-use products and luxury products, and said that the import of crude oil and some petroleum products from Russia to the European Union is prohibited, and some Russian banks have been removed from the international payment system SWIFT. The activities of many broadcasting organizations were suspended.
The European Union’s economic sanctions against Russia are extended every six months.
Russia illegally annexed the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol on March 18, 2014.
The European Union took the first decision to impose economic sanctions on Russia in 2014.
