Balkans | The European Union plans 20 billion euros in military support for Ukraine for 4 years

Josep Borrell, High Representative for Foreign Relations and Security Policy of the European Union (EU), stated that they plan to provide 20 billion euros for 4 years in the scope of military support to Ukraine, which is at war with Russia.

Borrell made a statement at the end of the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels, drawing attention to the importance of “sustained and predictable” support for Ukraine.

Borrell announced that he had prepared a proposal of 5 billion euros annually for the next four years by allocating a special part in the European Peace Fund, which is used for military support to Ukraine, to meet the defense needs of that country.

“This is our assessment of the needs and cost of our long-term security commitments to Ukraine.” Borrell said the issue had not been resolved and that it would be discussed again at the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Toledo, Spain, at the end of August.

Borrell said that Russia withdrew from the Black Sea grain corridor agreement, which caused food prices to rise and that the world was facing a threat to food security. “Putin is using hunger as a weapon,” Borrell said. He rated it.

Borrell stated that Russia gets a great deal of income from grain, and that its income will increase even more as prices increase.
