Celebrations within the framework of the centenary of the proclamation of the Republic in Turkey began with an exhibition of paintings titled “Traces of Contemporary Turkish Art” in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.

Under the organization of the Turkish Embassy in Sofia, the works of 33 Turkish artists were exhibited in the Mission Gallery of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State Cultural Institute.

Senyana Yovova, Director of the Mission Exhibition of the State Institute of Culture under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which hosted the exhibition, said she was happy to organize the first event in their annual calendar with the Turkish Embassy in Sofia.

Yovova said, “Contemporary Turkish art is not known enough in our cultural market. We are trying to make up for this deficiency that we are experiencing today. Since culture is the warmest link that brings people together, we can take advantage of this beautiful opportunity between us today.” He said.

“In this important year, Turkey will share its centuries-old achievements with the people of friendly and neighboring Bulgaria through the cultural activities it will organize throughout the year,” said Turkey’s Ambassador to Sofia, Aylin Itcuk. He said.

Ambassador Etcock stated that a piece composed for the famous ruler Mithat Pasha will be performed at the opening of the Traditional Classical Music Festival in Ruse, in the north of the country, in March.

Stating that an event will be organized to gather Turkish children from all over Bulgaria on the occasion of April 23 National Sovereignty Day and Children’s Day, Eightkök added that famous names from Turkey will take part in several planned events.

Project coordinator Siret Oyanek said that they are happy to open the exhibition in Sofia with the contribution of the Turkish Embassy and the support of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The opening was initiated by Mustafa Karadayi, head of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (HÖH) party, whose members are mostly Turks and Muslims, and the Citizens’ Party for European Development in Bulgaria (GERB), the largest group in Parliament. The exhibition, which can be visited until February 10 in Sofia, was attended by President Deslava Atanasova, deputies, representatives of cultural circles and diplomats.
