A conference on “The Role of News Information in the New Balkan Reality” was held in Thessaloniki, Greece, and was hosted by the Athens-Macedonia News Agency (AMNA) within the scope of the Association of Balkan and Southeast European News Agencies (ABNA-SE). .
The conference was attended by heads and directors of all news agencies from the Balkan countries, the Mediterranean and Europe, which was organized under the chairmanship of AMNA.
The conference began with a minute of silence for those who lost their lives in the catastrophic earthquake that struck Turkey on February 6 and the train accident in Greece on the night of February 28.
At the conference, a short video consisting of AA images about the earthquake disaster in Turkey was shown to the audience.
Speaking on behalf of the Anadolu Agency (AA), Director of Strategic Communications and External Relations Hazal Duran emphasized that after the disaster, the agency and colleagues at ABNA-SE were among the first to send a message of solidarity to Turkey and AA.
Topics such as the role of news and media in Southeast Europe in the uneven reality of the 21st century, the European perspective on the Western Balkans, the formation of a new energy map in the region, and the importance of transport, trade, communication and tourism networks in growth were among the topics discussed at the conference.
ABNA-SE member news agencies signed a declaration to combat disinformation after the conference. In this context, it was decided to cooperate closely to combat misinformation and false news, and to form a team that would quickly provide the necessary confirmations for this purpose in each news agency.
AAA Chairman and General Manager Serdar Karagoz will also deliver a speech by representing AA at the ABNA-SE Thessaloniki General Assembly meeting which will be held tomorrow.
The meeting will also be attended by Deputy General Manager and Editor-in-Chief, Youssef Ozan.
