Hamza Yusuf, who was elected as the new prime minister in the provincial government with elections held in Scotland today, shared a photo of him leading his family in prayer on his first day at Baitul Bayt, the official residence of the prime minister.

The 37-year-old Youssef, who was elected with 26,032 votes, equivalent to 52 percent of the votes cast, to lead the Scottish National Party (SNP), which was vacated due to the resignation of Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon in February, has announced that he will defend for gay rights while his opponents were against same-sex marriage and the right to abortion during the campaign.
Yusuf, who is of Pakistani origin, said in a statement after the results were announced that he was “determined” to achieve independence for Scotland and said, “We will be the generation that will achieve that.” He said.
