The trial of former President of Kosovo Hashim Thaci and former KLA leaders Kadri Veseli, Jakub Krasniqi and Riksp Selimi, who have been imprisoned since 2020, has begun at the International Tribunal for War Criminals in The Hague, Netherlands.
Former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders are accused of war crimes committed during the 1998-1999 War of Independence against Serbia.
While Thaci denies the war crimes allegations against him, prosecutors allege that Thaci, nicknamed “The Snake” during the war, had a role in the deaths of more than a hundred people executed by the KLA. The Public Prosecutor’s Office declared that it had evidence and witnesses for this allegation.
Thaci had resigned from the presidency in 2020 due to the judicial process and surrendered to the court.
Before Thaci’s trial, a show of support for the former president was held yesterday in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo.
Today, hundreds of Kosovo citizens and members of the diaspora demonstrated in The Hague in support of former KLA leaders who were on trial.
