After earthquakes hit 11 provinces centered on Kahramanmaraş, the Greek team of 27 people, who came to Turkey to support search and rescue efforts, moved to Thessaloniki.
After completing their work in Adiyaman, the Greek team came to Istanbul and was welcomed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and officials of the IGA, the operator of Istanbul Airport.
Team leader Ioannis Papastathis told AA reporter at the airport that the team consisted of 27 people from different cities in Greece.
Noting that people have always been with them from the moment they arrived in Adiyaman, Papastatis said: “During the search and rescue efforts, we made many friends and worked with them on the wreck. It was very important for us to have you by our side.” He said.
“I had many memories in Adiyaman”
Papastathis stated that they have been working for educational purposes many times so far and confirmed that they have never faced such a big disaster.
Expressing that he was very emotional from the moment he arrived in Turkey, Papastatis said, “I was more emotional while working in Adiyaman. I had many unforgettable memories. On the one hand, the love and warm welcome of the people, on the other hand, the suffering. The destruction was enormous.” The weather was cool. It impressed me a lot.” He said.
A farewell ceremony was held for the team that completed the ticket and passport procedures of İGA.
After raising the Turkish and Greek flags and taking a photo, Istanbul Deputy Governor Ozlem Bozkurt Cevric presented a painting to the team.
The ceremony was also attended by Ambassador Aisha Suzen Osluer, representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Istanbul, and Georgia Soltanopoulou, Greek Consul General in Istanbul.
Then the team went to Thessaloniki on a Turkish Airlines plane.
