Balkans | They transport natural gas from the field to the house in sacks

Natural gas, which comes near the surface in a town in Pakistan, has been used in homes in primitive ways developed by locals for years.

Natural gas, which comes near the surface in a town in Pakistan, has been used in homes in primitive ways developed by locals for years. In the city where there is a hose instead of pits to extract natural gas, and a shed instead of a refinery, natural gas is transported in 25-cent bags instead of billion-dollar pipelines.

In the town of Banda Daoud Shah in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, natural gas was found in the fields by chance, not while it was being explored in the traditional ways through massive infrastructure and drilling work.

In the region where poverty is rampant, people use the gas coming out of their cities at the cost of their lives. Because of the impossibilities, the locals developed their own units for the extraction, transportation and metering of natural gas.

In an area where there is no infrastructure, natural gas is distributed from a shed rather than a refinery, and transported in bags instead of through pipelines. The unit of measure is not the cubic meter; plastic bag.

As children run from the “Shelter Refinery” at the entrance to the city with “airplane balloons” (large bags) in their hands, they draw attention. These giant cylindrical bags at first glance seem like children’s entertainment, but in fact they are people’s fuel to cook dinner.

AA reporter met with the townspeople by witnessing this dangerous natural gas voyage.

Locals are aware of the dangers of this fun, “hot air balloon” method of transportation. Because of this, many deaths and injuries occurred in the area before. However, due to cost and poverty, people prefer “flying balloons”, which are 70-80 percent cheaper, rather than kitchen tubes, which cost 5-10 thousand PKR (about 410-820 TL) depending on their size.

The residents of Banda Daoud Shah do not pay for the natural gas because it comes from their land.

Those without natural gas in their lands met their needs from a temporary hut outside the city. Children waiting in the barracks fill the townspeople’s bags with natural gas.

In addition to naan (bread) and dalkana (chickpeas) in the list of daily kitchen needs, the family also asks the head of the family for a bag of gas.

Fills up within 20 minutes, and finishes after 2 hours

Natural gas, which is extracted through a hose buried in the ground, is filled into the bags through a small valve inserted into the mouth of the bags to prevent leakage. The other end of the bags is tied to a stone on the ground so that it does not take off like a flying balloon.

The bag is filled in 20-25 minutes on average. An electric pump of 2,000 rupees (about 165 Turkish liras) is enough for the “gas bag” to be used in their homes. By means of this pump, food can be cooked from gas bag in home stoves. One bag of gas equals two hours of consumption.

Economics out of the bag, saving lives

The “flying balloons” carried mostly by children can turn into “flying balloons” at the slightest degree of negligence.

As if it wasn’t enough for kids to carry natural gas home in sacks, the little patches on some of the nylon bags draw attention. Since the bags are not disposable, it is understandable that they have been used dozens of times when looking at the patches on them.

While warnings such as “do not approach fire, beware of explosive materials, or turn off electronic devices” in kitchen piping, natural gas filling facilities, or the tanks they carry draw attention around the world, the stages at which “bag gas” is filled, transported, and consumed “In the hands of children” completely “organic”.

If it leaks from the bag, the risk of poisoning is very high, since there is no sulfur-containing odorous substance in the gas and it will be inhaled in its purest form. In packaged and packaged transport, the explosion looks like a magneto or spark. The process of transferring natural gas from bag balloons to the burner with a small electric pump is also prone to major accidents. This is why a two-hour cooking job is a matter of life and death for Panda Dawood Chahit’s family.

Gas must be provided by safe means.

Hazrat Kanaan, a resident of the town, told a reporter: a. The people of the region are going through difficult times. He said that because of the need, people carry the gas in plastic bags and they are aware of the danger.

Kanaan emphasized that he wanted the government to provide them with natural gas infrastructure.

Pointing out that the townspeople get gas in this way every day, Kanan said, “We use this gas with a pump connected to the stove, but it is very dangerous. After all, these bags are right next to the fire while cooking.” He said.

Pointing out that there have been many accidents, Kannan said, “Although we have natural gas, we cannot use it safely. An explosion occurred in a house and a person died. A mother and daughter suffered burns.” He said.

Suhana Katak also complains about not providing them with this gas in safe ways.

Explaining that women and children carry gas in plastic bags every day because the men work, Katak said he sometimes sends his children to get gas, but he also fears possible accidents.

Katak stressed that he wanted to use natural gas safely in his home.

Navab Khan, on the other hand, stated that they can only make tea and roti (a type of bread) with the gas in these plastic bags, which they can use for an hour or 1.5 hours, although it is not safe, but they are obliged to do so. Let’s do it.
