Today, the official opening of the 1350 MW Karapinar Solar Power Plant, owned by Kalyon Energy, took place.
According to the information received by Kalyon Energy’s AA reporter, Kalyon Karapınar SPP, one of the largest solar power plants in Europe and one of the few in the world, which started installation work in January 2020, is installed on 20 million square meters of land.
The power plant will increase Turkey’s share of installed solar power by 20 percent after full capacity operation.
A total of 3 million 256 thousand 38 solar panels were used in the power station, and their installation was completed with the panels produced in the world’s first fully integrated solar panel plant Kalyon Photovoltaic (PV), which was established within the scope of the competitions of renewable energy resources regions ( YEKA).
After the desertification of the Ajegol Basin due to unconscious farming, climate change and improper irrigation, the land was considered as a source of renewable energy, creating job opportunities in addition to generating electricity in the area.
The plant’s sustainability standards are at the highest level.
While the Kalyon Karapınar SPP project is the UK government’s largest amount of funding on sustainability on a global scale, the World Bank’s “Sustainability Framework Standards” are being implemented to the highest standard and rigorously.
In addition, the UK Export Credit Agency UKEF contributed to the financing of the plant, which was completed with an investment of $1 billion.
The panels containing 80 percent local content produced by Kalyon PV are housed in the power plant and are the size of a total of 2,600 football fields.
The said electricity production of the power plant, which will produce 3 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, corresponds to 1 percent of Turkey’s electricity consumption.
The electricity to be produced will also correspond to an annual exchange of foreign exchange worth $450 million, while the domestic electricity needs of two million people will be met from this power station.
In addition, 2 million tons of fossil fuel and carbon emissions will be prevented through the power plant.
On the other hand, Kalyon Energy aims to value renewable energy investments at more than $10 billion in 5 years by signing a partnership agreement with International Energy Holding Company, one of the largest investment companies in the world, for $490 million. dollars.
